The Tawang War Memorial stands about 2 km from Tawang town and commemorates the 2,420 Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during the Sino-Indian War of 1962. The memorial consists of a large cylindrical tower inscribed with the names of the martyrs and is set against the magnificent backdrop of the Tawang-Chu valley. The Indian Army organises a daily bugle ceremony here at dusk. The 1962 war holds special significance in Tawang as the town was briefly occupied by Chinese forces before they withdrew.
