Salugara Monastery
About Salugara Monastery
Salugara Monastery, formally known as The Great International Tashi Gomang Stupa, is the most important Buddhist site in the Siliguri region. Established by Tibetan Buddhist monks and followers of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the monastery is maintained by the Drodon Kunchab Chodey Buddhist Association.
The centrepiece is a 100-foot stupa built by the Tibetan Lama Kalu Rinpoche, believed to contain five kinds of Buddhist relics. Sighting the stupa is considered to bring salvation according to Buddhist tradition. The complex also features a giant prayer wheel, murals, and landscaped gardens offering views of the surrounding hills.
The monastery built in the 1990s serves as an active centre for prayer, meditation, and Buddhist learning. Open to all visitors; best visited in the morning for a peaceful experience.
