Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo
About Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo
The Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo, named after Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, is one of only a handful of high altitude zoos in India. Set at 2,100 metres on Sher Ka Danda Hill, it provides naturalistic habitats suited to Himalayan and high-altitude species.
The zoo houses snow leopards, Siberian tigers (snow tigers), Himalayan black bears, leopards, hill foxes, wolves, palm civets, silver pheasants, barking deer, and sambar. The altitude and cool climate make conditions suitable for species that could not thrive in lowland zoos.
Located about 1 km from Mall Road, the zoo is easily walkable from the town centre. Open daily except Tuesdays. Entry fee applies; timings vary by season.
