Kempty Falls
About Kempty Falls
Kempty Falls is the most popular natural attraction near Mussoorie, located 15 km from the town centre on the Mussoorie-Yamunotri road in Tehri Garhwal district. The waterfall drops 40 feet (12 metres) from an altitude of 4,500 feet, splitting into five distinct cascading streams before collecting in a large natural pool at the base.
The name "Kempty" derives from "camp-tea" - British officers in the colonial era frequently held tea parties here, establishing it as a recreational retreat. The pool at the base is open for swimming, particularly popular in summer. A ropeway provides a 5-6 minute aerial ride down to the falls with panoramic valley views, eliminating the steep stairway descent.
Best visited March to June and September to November. Crowds peak on weekends and holidays - arrive early for a more peaceful experience. Entry fee applies.
