About Thirupparankundram

Thirupparankundram Murugan Temple near Madurai is one of the six sacred Arupadai Veedu (abodes) of Lord Murugan in Tamil Nadu and is considered the site of Murugan's marriage to Devasena (daughter of Indra). The temple is carved into a granite hillside and is one of the oldest Murugan temples in South India, with sections dating back to the Pandya period. The rock-cut cave shrines, the natural hillside setting, and the cave passages through which devotees pass to reach the main shrine create a uniquely immersive pilgrimage experience. The temple is one of the most important in the Tamil Murugan tradition.
