Avaniapuram Jallikattu

A neighbourhood within Madurai city, Avaniapuram is synonymous with Jallikattu, the ancient Tamil bull-taming tradition rooted in Sangam-era literature. Every year on Pongal day, the arena here hosts one of the three most famous Jallikattu events in Tamil Nadu, drawing thousands of spectators for an electrifying display of courage and cultural pride. The new dedicated Jallikattu stadium here also features a museum on the sports significance and native cattle breeds.
