Varaha Temple
About Varaha Temple
A small open pavilion within the Western Group enclosure, the Varaha Temple is built around a single extraordinary sculpture: a massive sandstone image of Varaha, the boar incarnation of Vishnu. What makes the sculpture remarkable is its surface, covered in hundreds of miniature carved figures representing deities, sages, and celestial beings. Goddess Saraswati appears on the boar's shoulder. Dating to around the 10th century, this is widely regarded as one of the finest individual sculptures in the entire Khajuraho complex.
