Lakshmana Temple

Lakshmana Temple in Khajuraho is one of the best-preserved and oldest temples of the Western Group, built around 930 CE by the Chandela king Yashovarman. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple sits on a high platform and is notable for its three subsidiary shrines at the corners, a feature unique among Khajuraho temples. Its outer walls are covered in three horizontal bands of exquisitely carved sculptures depicting gods, apsaras, mithunas, and scenes of daily life. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered a benchmark of Chandela architectural achievement.
