About Ghantai Temple
Ghantai Temple in Khajuraho is a Jain temple from the 10th century, named after the bell-and-chain carvings (ghanta means bell) that adorn its pillars. Part of the Eastern Group of temples, it is dedicated to the Jain Tirthankara Rishabhanatha. The temple's columns display fine carvings of the sixteen dreams of the Tirthankara's mother, making it an important site for understanding Jain iconography. Though partially ruined, the temple's surviving sculptural detail makes it a remarkable stop in Khajuraho's Eastern temple cluster.
