About Toorji ka Jhalra

Toorji ka Jhalra is a historic stepwell built in 1740 by the queen-consort of Maharaja Abhay Singh as part of a royal tradition of women overseeing public water works. The stepwell descends several storeys underground with intricate carved arches, columns, and niches lining each level. After years of neglect it was restored and has become one of the most visited spots in Jodhpur's old city. The area around it has developed into a lively hub of cafes and guesthouses. It is especially photogenic in the morning and evening light and provides a fascinating contrast between the ancient structure and the bustling blue city lanes around it.
