Osian Temples
About Osian Temples
Osian is an ancient town about 65 km north of Jodhpur that was an important trading and religious centre between the 8th and 12th centuries. The town contains a remarkable cluster of over a dozen Hindu and Jain temples built during the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty, featuring intricately carved facades, erotic sculptures, and well-preserved shikhara towers. The most prominent is the Sachiya Mata Temple, an active pilgrimage site dedicated to the goddess Sachiya, and the Mahavira Jain Temple. The desert landscape around Osian also makes it a popular base for camel safaris. The site is often compared to Khajuraho for the quality of its temple sculpture.
