Gass Forest Museum
About Gass Forest Museum
The Gass Forest Museum was established in 1902 by Horace Archibald Gass, the then Conservator of Forests, and is one of the oldest forestry museums in India. Located within the Forest College and Research Institute campus on Forest College Road, the museum contains an extraordinary collection of preserved wildlife specimens, rare timber samples, ancient tribal weapons and tools, insect collections, antique armoury, and exhibits on the forest ecosystems of Tamil Nadu. A taxidermy collection of over a hundred animals and birds gives the museum an unusual character. The building itself is a heritage structure and the leafy campus surrounding it adds to the appeal. Entry is free and the museum is open to the public.
