About Alappuzha Beach

Alappuzha Beach is the main seafront of the town, a wide sandy beach on the Arabian Sea famous for its 150-year-old pier that stretches dramatically out into the water. The pier was originally built as a commercial jetty when Alappuzha was a thriving port and trading hub. Today the beach is a popular destination for locals and tourists, especially at sunset when the sky over the Arabian Sea turns vivid shades of orange and gold. The beach hosts the annual Alappuzha Beach Festival and Sand Art Festival. Water sports including parasailing, jet skiing, and beach volleyball are available. The Alappuzha Lighthouse, built in 1862 and one of the oldest on the southwest coast of India, stands near the beach and is open to visitors.
