Tripura Sundari Temple
About Tripura Sundari Temple
The Tripura Sundari Temple, also known as Matabari or Kurma Pitha, is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in Hinduism and is considered the most sacred temple in Tripura. Located about 55 km from Agartala near the town of Udaipur, the temple sits on a small hill called Kurma Parbat, named for its resemblance to a tortoise. The presiding deity is Goddess Tripura Sundari, a form of Durga, and the temple is believed to be the spot where Sati's right foot fell after Lord Vishnu dismembered her body. The temple draws enormous crowds of pilgrims year-round and is especially thronged during Diwali and Navratri. A sacred tank called Kailashahar Sagar lies near the temple and is believed to fulfil wishes.
