Jagannath Temple Agartala
About Jagannath Temple Agartala
The Jagannath Temple sits within the grounds of Ujjayanta Palace and is one of the most active religious sites in Agartala. Built by the Maharaja of Tripura in the 19th century, the temple is dedicated to Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra. The temple base is octagonal with pyramidal superstructures that reflect Bengal-style temple architecture. The evening aarti draws devotees from across the city and is one of the most atmospheric religious experiences in Agartala. The annual Rath Yatra festival when the deities are taken out in a grand chariot procession is the temple's most celebrated event, drawing thousands of devotees to the streets around the palace complex.
