About Chaturdasha Devata Temple

The Chaturdasha Devata Temple, meaning the Temple of Fourteen Gods, is one of the most sacred and historically significant temples in Tripura. Located in Old Agartala about 8 km from the city centre, the temple was built by the tribal Maharajas of Tripura nearly 300 years ago. It is dedicated to 14 deities collectively representing the state deity of Tripura. The temple is the focal point of the Kharchi Puja festival held every July, one of the most important festivals in Tripura, when hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and devotees gather here over several days for rituals, processions, and celebrations. The temple architecture reflects a blend of Bengali and Buddhist styles and the surrounding area comes alive dramatically during the festival.
